Thousand Oaks, CA, May 3, 2015 - Los Robles Hospital & Medical Center opened a brand new four-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) today to provide round-the-clock specialized care for pediatric patients that are too ill to be treated in a general pediatric setting. The new unit will provide infants, children, and young adults access to a greater level of medical care previously unavailable to them in the Greater Conejo Valley.
The newly renovated unit will be staffed by pediatric critical care physicians who are members of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Medical Group (CHLAMG), and round-the-clock by a team of specially-trained nurses and respiratory therapists with pediatric intensive care expertise. CHLAMG physicians will be on-call 24 hours-a-day, seven days a week to respond to the specialized health care needs that children may have in the new PICU.
“Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Medical Group doctors are consistently ranked the best in the country and earn accolades in national and regional surveys that evaluate the nation’s top pediatric physicians,” said Kevin O’Brien, Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center PICU Medical Director, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Medical Group. “By expanding our services to Los Robles Hospital, Greater Conejo Valley families can benefit from care that is more specialized for children closer to home.”
Prior to the opening of the Los Robles Hospital PICU, residents of the Greater Conejo Valley had fewer options and were required to leave the community to obtain critical pediatric care. This new unit aligns with Los Robles’ vision of being the community’s most trusted resource for health and a regional destination for care.
“Our community deserves the best care possible and we are committed to providing access to services where there is a need,” said Natalie Mussi, chief executive officer, Los Robles Hospital & Medical Center. “Working with physicians of the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Medical Group enables us to provide a broader range of services, right here in our own community.”
