Robotic surgery in Ventura County, California
At Los Robles Regional Medical Center, we aim to provide the most effective, least invasive treatments for conditions that require surgery. The da Vinci® Surgical System provides surgeons with an alternative to both traditional open surgery and conventional laparoscopy. Surgeons use the robotic platform to perform even the most complex and delicate procedures through small incisions with great precision.

What is robotic surgery?
Technology has provided us with advancements that benefit the way we conduct surgeries. Using robotic technology, we have the ability to perform minimally invasive procedures. Through our da Vinci® robotic surgery, physicians enhance surgical precision through an increased range of motion that takes surgery beyond the limits of the human hand.
The da Vinci® robot provides surgeons the ability to expand their capabilities through its features which include:
- An ergonomically designed surgeon's console (allowing the surgeon to be comfortably seated during surgery)
- Patient side cart that is complete with four interactive robotic arms
- A high definition 3-D vision system
Benefits of robotic surgery
The da Vinci® robotic system allows our physicians a wider range of motion in surgery that benefits our patients. For the patient, benefits may include:
- Shorter hospital stays
- Significantly less pain
- Less risk of infection and tissue damage
- Less blood loss
- Less scarring
- Shorter recovery time
- A faster return to normal daily activities
- And in many cases, better clinical outcomes
The process of robotic surgery
When considering robotic surgery it is important to understand the process. A common misconception is that the robotic system conducts the surgery for the physician. In fact, the physician is in full control and inputs every surgical maneuver that the robot makes. The robot cannot be programmed or make decisions on its own. During the procedure, the surgeon sits at the console while peering through a viewfinder. The viewfinder provides 3-dimensional, high definition visualization of the operative site from the robotic camera.

Note: While clinical studies support the effectiveness of the da Vinci® System when used in minimally invasive surgery, individual results may vary. Surgery with the da Vinci Surgical System may not be appropriate for every individual. Always ask your doctor about all treatment options, as well as their risks and benefits.
