Total Joint Program - Details
Deciding on joint replacement surgery is a big decision. We want to make sure you have all the information you need for a positive experience and a successful outcome. We believe the more information and clear understanding you have about your total joint procedure, the better prepared you will be to recover quickly and get back to your normal activities.
On average, the total surgery time is anticipated to last 1 to 2 hours with additional time for preparation, anesthesia and recovery. Our goal is to prepare you for discharge after a three day stay at our Hospital so that you can finish the recovery process in the comfort of your own home and return to your active lifestyle.
Preparing for your Surgery:
In preparing for your surgery we recommend that you complete the following:
- Make sure that you have completed all tests that were listed in your Total Joint Replacement Program Binder. In order to facilitate the process our Hospital provides the following services:
- EKG Tests
- Blood Work
- Chest X-Ray’s
- Speak with your Physician about the medications that you take at home, including vitamins. This will allow for the Physician to make any modifications prior to your surgery. In addition, it is important to leave any medications that you have at home, unless instructed to do otherwise. We will provide all medications that you need to take during your hospital stay.
Upon your arrival at our hospital you will be registered and taken to our Pre-Surgical Care Unit to begin the preparation for surgery. At this time you will also be seen by an anesthesiologist and have the opportunity to ask any questions that you may have. Upon the completion of your surgery you will be transferred to our Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) for the initial recovery phase. Once you have been cleared by your physician you will be transferred to a private room to begin the recovery process of our program.
During the procedure your friends and family will be able to wait in our surgical lobby located on the Main floor in Tower 2. Our Surgical Lobby is equipped with state-of-the-art Patient Tracking Monitors. All information on this monitor is tracked through a personal code that is only made available to your designated family and friends. Your Physician will update your visitors upon the completion of your surgery.
Once you have been transferred to your private room in our Total Joint Program Unit we will begin the recovery session of our program. It is here that you will be introduced to the rest of our Clinical Team that will be working with you during the remainder of your stay. Our nurses will provide you with all of your medications and assist you in managing your pain effectively. Each morning you will be provided with a Daily Hospital Care & Activity Plan that describes the itinerary for the day. The developed plans will provide you with tips that you should follow, your activities for the day, tests that are scheduled and your physical and occupational therapy sessions.
Physical Therapy sessions begin the day of surgery and continue throughout your hospital stay. Our Staff will work with you during your exercise program in regaining mobility and function following your surgery.
As part of our services we also offer Occupational Therapy in order to help you accomplish the everyday tasks that are necessary in regaining independence with your activities of daily living.
