Minimally invasive endoscopic spine surgery
Surgeons use a minimally invasive approach for several spinal disorders, including herniated discs and spinal stenosis. The endoscopic spine procedure accesses the spine through a small incision in the back, creating a channel directly to the herniated disc.
The surgeon guides a special endoscope through the small incision, where they can clearly see all the structures in the spinal canal. They remove any herniated material and then seal the incision, usually with one or two stitches.
Patients are often up and about with minimal to no pain within hours.
About your spine surgery
Before your surgery, one of our team members will call you for a health assessment based on your physician's orders. They will review and update any information related to your spine surgery.
To complete the pre-surgical process, your physician will order all the tests you will need before the surgery. Tests may include blood work, an electrocardiogram and chest X-rays.

How long will I be in the hospital after my surgery?
Depending on the type of surgery, you may be in the hospital for less than a day, or up to four days. Your discharge is based on your procedure and your individual progress. You need to meet certain goals to ensure that you are ready to go home safely. We'll give you discharge instructions based on the rate of your recovery.
How long will it be before I can return to my normal activities?
Because every surgery and patient is different, your doctor can best determine when you can safely return to activities such as driving, lifting objects or physical labor.
Will I need special equipment at home after my surgery?
During your hospital stay, the physical and occupational therapy staff will assess your equipment needs and make recommendations. Potential needs might include assistive devices such as a walking aid, a reacher, a sock aid and a shoehorn.
Will I have pain after my surgery?
Most people experience pain following spine surgery. Everyone has a different perception of pain as well as a different tolerance level. Pain control is important for healing and rehabilitation, and your comfort is a top priority for your physician and staff. Your physician and nurses will work closely with you to assess and manage your pain.
